The Never Ending Rainy Day
It’s been raining for, like, a hundred years straight here in Maine (ok, ok two weeks) and I. am. going. crazy.
Between playing ball with Boogie in our mud pit of a back yard, coaxing Birdie to please, pretty please, stop pretending she’s a camel and go to the bathroom already, and all the soggy dog walks I’ve been doing every afternoon, I’ve lost my mind.
And I’ve decided this is my future:
That’s right. I want a Patio Park.
Not only do I want one, but my rain-induced insanity is making me think that buying a van, throwing one of these inside, and offering up a mobile, door-to-door, covered potty break station is exactly what the pet industry needs and I’m the gal to do it.
Right?!
I know that’s bonkers. But I kinda wish I could do that today, this millionth day of rain.
p.s. This actually might be handy for city-DINOS. Or is that the soggy mush in my head talking?

I’m in NH and feel your pain. Abby hates the rain, too. She’s the only dog I’ve ever had who clearly shows a working knowledge of, and appreciation for, an umbrella. Seriously, she is glued to my calf so she can also reap the benefits.
Nice. I walk a couple of dogs that need to be covered by an umbrella in this weather (I don’t actually use it for myself – just them)! Maybe Abby needs to start a support group: Dogs in Need of Umbrellas.
I’m crazy along with you cuz I want one too.
SEND ME ALL YOUR RAIN. My collie loves it, but mostly I want it to keep the other dogwalkers indoors.
Ha! You’re right – I do love that the rain keeps the streets mostly empty for us to enjoy. I’m packing up a day’s worth of rain and overnighting it to you Liz!
All my daycare dogs love the patio park that we have. They use it just like the real “outdoors” even though it’s fake grass and none of the very well housetrained dogs have been the least bit confused! Our little dog room would not be the same without one, they seem to dislike going out into the rain to potty more than our big guys!
Hold the phone! You acutally have the real Patio Park? I am jealous.
I’m in Vermont and I totally get it. Dobes are notorious for hating the rain, and I would welcome the door-to-door potty service. Murphy doesn’t understand that the quicker he does his business, the quicker he gets back inside,so he ends up wasting time trying to avoid his ‘business’ and getting soaked in the process. The worse the weather is it seems, the longer it takes for him to just get down to it. And for those who are insistent that I “am not sugar, I will not melt” um, I beg to differ. Yes, yes I am and yes I probably will.
I love a rainy day once in awhile, but day after day it’s just crazy-making and not conducive to anything constructive. I’ll be on the lookout for the ‘potty van’ 🙂 I like the idea.
I once considered trying an indoor system, but was concerned about Murphy’s size creating a serious ick-factor:-0
I think we’ve just come up with our business plan: Murphy and Birdie’s Door to Door Covered Wee Wagon.
LOVE it:-)
Ha!!! That is hystercial. I hope the insanity wins out cause I’d love to see this executed.
Hahaha! Think nice weather is coming your way…I hope!
I know, right? Maine usually has rainy springs, but this is overkill. And not to mention what all the extra water is doing for the tick population. Who knew I would be covered in ticks after walking the streets of Portland. Gross.
Yikes – ticks from walking in Portland? That’s no fun. A couple of years ago I found out that the ticks on Peaks Island are almost totally immune to Frontline. It doesn’t work there at all. Isn’t that nutty? I wonder if that’s happening in town too!?
Hmm interesting. Our vet just suggested we switch to Vectra, so we are going to try that. Frontline isn’t strong enough for these Maine ticks!
Wee Wagon. LOL. My Puddin won’t pee on wet grass in the back yard but she will poop and even sit if I ask her. But won’t pee Uuugh. She will pee on wet grass during walks (or is that she has me trained to walk her instead of standing around the back yard?)
Any she will pee on fresh sod pieces. One day I just happened to lay some sod while it was raining and she walked right out peed on what I put down. Wish there was a sod place near by, I’d keep some on hand daily for such occasions. Kind of like rolling out the red carpet, no?
Oh, here’s something crazy. Eating will make some of my dogs pee outside. It has to be more than treat sized but can be smaller than meal size. I put something tasty on a paper plate. Put it at the far end of the yard. They eat it, then on the way back to the house, they pee. I use a paper plate because sometimes they pee in the food bowl when I do that.
John Rogerson (The Dog Vinci Code) says to put food down in a circle so the dog has to circle which well make them want to potty because dogs circle before pottying I tried that last night with Puddin, she just kept cris crossing to pick up the treats 🙂
Those food suggestions are hysterical. Seriously, the things we do for our dogs!!
And I love the idea of rolling our the green carpet for Puddin and Birdie. They would love the royal treatment, I bet!
Brodie hates the rain too! Unfortunately for him I love running in the rain and because rain means no other dogs out and about he gets dragged out jogging with me, sad and pouty the whole time.
I feel your pain,
I’m going insane,
enough, ENOUGH of this rain!
I think I’m growing mold ;o(
I feel you on the mold. I was starting to turn into moss-woman myself ; )
